About Baptism
Baptism is an outward expression of an inward allegiance you have pledged to follow Christ Jesus. It is our formal entry into participation in the kingdom of God. Jesus was baptized when He was on the earth, and we do this to follow His example.
When believers are baptized, they are submerged under water to identify with the death and burial of Jesus and raised out of the water to identify with His resurrection.
We believe that water baptism is a public declaration of two important things:
When believers are baptized, they are submerged under water to identify with the death and burial of Jesus and raised out of the water to identify with His resurrection.
We believe that water baptism is a public declaration of two important things:
- You are a follower of Jesus Christ
- You are declaring the beginning of your experience and participation of a transformed life in Christ
“For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.” Colossians 2:12 NLT
It identifies us with Christ’s death and burial. As we go down into the water, we declare ourselves dead to our old way of living. (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-5)
It also identifies us with Christ’s resurrection. As we are coming up out of the water, we declare that He has given us power to live a new life full of meaning and purpose.
Why Should I Be Baptized?
In obedience to the command of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:19)
It publicly demonstrates that I am a follower and disciple (Acts 19:3-5).
“Those who gladly received His word were baptized…” Acts 2:41
