Advent Season
Ages: All ages
Days: December 1st - December 24th
About Advent:
Word of Life Ministry will be celebrating Advent again this season for four Sundays in the month of December.
We live in a secular time where the sacred often keeps getting pushed aside. Keeping the sacred at the center of our lives is an act of defiance.
Simple spirituality is not enough. A loose, self-made approach to spirituality can easily turn into just a passing feeling mixed with some “wellness” habits. We need something more solid and deeply connected to tradition—something that draws from the rich wisdom and practices of the past. This is what the Great Tradition of the Christian faith offers.
In this Tradition, we follow a sacred calendar that tells the story of Jesus Christ throughout the year. While we use a regular calendar to manage daily life, the sacred calendar shapes our lives around the message of the gospel.
Christmas has become part of the secular calendar too, but the way it is seen there is different. The secular “Christmas Season” is full of rush and busyness, but Advent invites us to slow down and quiet our souls.
Advent is a four-week period of longing for the coming of the Messiah. It is about waiting, which can be difficult in our fast-paced world. But patience is an important virtue we need to build. On the first Sunday of Advent, we practice slowing down and embracing the wait. This practice is good for our souls.
December 1st - Hope Sunday
December 8th - Peace Sunday
December 15th - Joy Sunday
December 22nd - Love Sunday
A most blessed Advent & Merry Christmas to each of you and your families.
